What’s Happening at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona 2018

Yes, the new year is well underway and it’s time for the highlight of the mobile industry’s calendar—the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. GSMA claims that this year’s event is bigger and better than any before with delegates from all four corners of the globe looking to learn about the latest and greatest developments in the world of mobile communications. These are some of the things that are happening at this year’s show.

Allot Stand at MWC 2018The discussions and exhibits at MWC cover a plethora of topics from developments surrounding 5G to systems that utilize artificial and connected intelligence. Naturally, developments in the Internet of Things (IoT) continue to create buzz, as do related topics such as smart homes and smart cities. Mobile payments is another area that catches the attention of many delegates, especially the world of cybercurrencies, tokens, and blockchain technology. With the meteoric rise and plunge in the value of Bitcoin, these technologies certainly capture the focus and imagination of many of the representatives at the show.

However, among all of the new rollouts and changed appearances of many of the big players, one thing that is clearly on service providers’ agendas is cybersecurity. With consumer and corporate awareness heightened with every news report on cybercrime or the latest malware attack, some CSPs have already risen to the challenge to offer solid, secure, and affordable solutions that will also help them differentiate and increase ARPU. With their perfect positioning as monitors of virtually every step on the network traffic circuit, CSPs are turning their attention away from the classic model of winning over new subscribers, towards a world that protects those subscribers that they already have. While most Internet users realize that they should protect themselves against an ever-present and evolving threat from cyberattacks, it appears that few are doing so, when it comes to mobile security. Many mobile users are simply not prepared to seriously tackle the online threats to their Internet connectivity, their network infrastructure, and increasingly, to their very homes and businesses, by themselves.

The business paradigm that CSPs are offering to their customers is to provide solid, integrated, and comprehensive cybersecurity solutions. This Security as a Service (SECaaS) approach serves their clients well as they can provide updated security services while, at the same time, increasing their own revenue by charging nominal amounts for such Internet protection.

This year at MWC, Allot is launching its new unified cybersecurity defense platform—Allot Secure. This platform empowers CSPs to offer their customers multilayered, branded, network-based Internet security. The comprehensive solution combines network security, mobile security, endpoint protection and home gateway security into a unified system that is seamless to the subscriber. It delivers a unified customer experience with a single interface for reporting, event handling, and the setting of customized security policies.

Allot Secure comprises the following security components:

  • NetworkSecure: Allot’s flagship network-based security solution (previously called WebSafe Personal), which already protects millions of subscribers across Europe. It comprises a network-based security layer that enables CSPs to deliver secure web services and parental control and which features frictionless onboarding and mass activation capabilities.
  • HomeSecure: Security for home IoT, smart appliances, and home offices, integrating existing fixed network CPEs with the addition of a thin client that provides home network visibility and security.
  • EndpointSecure: Integrates and centrally manages 3rd party endpoint security clients to provide a seamless customer experience and consistent security for customers who switch between the operator’s mobile network and Wi-Fi at home or in public locations.
  • IoTSecure: IoT security and value-added services for enterprise customers. This product provides increased operational efficiency and IoT service monetization that secures IoT services and CSP infrastructure.
  • DDoS Secure: An inline, bi-directional DDoS mitigation system designed for carrier networks with a Tera-bit scale. DDoS Secure automatically removes DDoS attack traffic within seconds while maintaining maximum QoE for all legitimate network services.

The most comprehensive security platform on the market for service providers, Allot Secure is designed specifically for CSPs to deliver SECaaS, offering significant benefits to both CSPs and their customers including:

  • Facilitating high adoption rates, which can reach record levels of 60% uptake
  • Unlocking additional ARPU opportunity of potentially 1-4 US dollars per customer, per month
  • Protecting all IoT and user devices simultaneously in the core network, home network, and off-network through a seamless, end-user experience
  • Brand differentiation and increased customer loyalty, leading to reduced churn

Allot will be present at MWC 2018 in Booth #5G41 in Hall 5, where you will be able to meet our Team and see live demos of Allot’s network intelligence and security products. Additionally, find out more about Allot’s new cybersecurity offering, Allot Secure and find out how this SECaaS can make CSPs the leading security providers for the mass market.
