Evolution of Network Service Enablement Utilizing NFV
Broadband service providers and network operators are looking to elevate their role in the fast-evolving digital lifestyle ecosystem. By introducing new subscriber-valued network services, operators and service providers can capitalize on the traffic they generate, while improving digital lifestyle experiences. One of the major barriers to fast and cost-effective new service deployment is the need to install and integrate myriad hardware, software and management systems to get services up and running. Moreover, managing and updating these diverse systems involve significant operating expenditures that raise operators’ total cost of ownership (TCO). Network functions virtualization (NFV) defines a new architecture designed to overcome these challenges by creating a network infrastructure leveraging standard virtualization IT technologies with standard commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) servers, storage and switches.
