The Allot MobileTrends Olympics 2012 Report is an initiative to track global bandwidth usage on fixed and mobile broadband networks during the Olympic Games in London. This was the first time that global audiences could view live coverage of Olympic events on the Internet.

The anonymous data in this report was collected daily, starting with the Opening Ceremony on July 27, 2012 and finishing with the Closing Ceremony on August 12, 2012.

Key Findings

  • Sports “channels” bandwidth consumption increased by 2,815% on average during the whole period of the Olympics. 
  • Instant Messaging saw a significant 363% increase.
  • Social Media played a significant role during these Olympic Games with a 168% increase.
